Hosting the day
If you’re going to organise a Bigger Breakfast, you need to ensure that the event will run smoothly. There’s nothing worse than hungry men wondering why their breakfast is running late!
Save the date!
Let people know about the date well in advance. As soon as you’ve decided to take part in The Bigger Breakfast, start getting people to save the date in their diaries! The Bigger Breakfast is such an exciting event we need to ensure that they are going to come along from day one.
Download the posters from this site and put them up around your church. Pass around the invitations and get people excited about the occasion!
Book your speakers
If you want to organise a speaker for your event, then you need to book them as soon as possible. Remember to ask them about any fees or expenses, as you’ll need to build that into any ticket price you charge.
Plan Your Menu
Decide on the type of breakfast you will offer at The Bigger Breakfast. If you’re going to use the services of your local café, pub or restaurant, then pay a visit and make a provisional booking for your table now. Give them an estimated number of diners: be realistic. They should be able to give you a price per diner.
Decide how much to charge people
There are three ways to pay for your breakfasts: ask people for donations, charge an admission fee or take the money out of your church’s/men’s group budget. If you’re dining at a local café, find out if they want a deposit or money upfront – or payment on the day. If men pay the café directly, will they then need to add a donation in for the speaker? Only you will know what the best price to ask is.
If you’re cooking at home or in your church kitchens, then your entry price might be considerably lower, especially if you buy food from your local cash and carry. You will need to work out a unit price for a basic breakfast and round it up or down a little.
Buy the food
– and don’t forget the condiments!
The day before the breakfast (or earlier if you have a big freezer!) make sure you buy all the food you need: more than enough sausages, bacon, eggs, hash browns, loaves, tea, coffee, ketchup, brown sauce and mustard. Draw up a list before you go shopping so nothing is forgotten.
Work out how long you’ll need in the kitchen
Remember that preparing food safely needs care, time and effort. With handling raw meats, you’ll need to ensure that they are all cooked thoroughly so no one gets food poisoning. Likewise, you’ll need to ensure they’re not burnt to a crisp either!
You might need to get down to the venue two hours before ‘kick-off’ to ensure the tables are set, tea and coffee are made up, all the eggs are fried and the sausages are perfect.
You could always do a practice run!

Enjoy the breakfast!
When it’s all cooking nicely, you’ll really enjoy yourselves. Make sure the conservation flows, and men enjoy spending time in fellowship together.
