For men with appetites

WHAT are you doing for breakfast on Saturday, September 24? If you’re man, then we want you to join us for a hearty full English! The BMM (the Baptist Men’s Movement) is organising the fourth annual Bigger Breakfast as its contribution to the Back To Church Sunday weekend and you’re invited to take part.

The idea is simple: men invite their mates for a breakfast. It can be held round a kitchen table, in a pub or café, up a mountain, in a football ground, in a railway carriage, or a church hall. Last year, some churches organised great events that saw comedians, barristers, chaplains and presidents share their stories. BMM is encouraging churches to do similar this year.

BMM also encourages churches to hold the event in a non-church venue to make it easier to invite non-Christians along to and to support local businesses.

“Getting together outside of our church buildings is important,” says BMM’s president, Phil Creighton. “Spending time together helps build up friendships and it’s even easier when you’re meeting outside of your church hall.

“The Bigger Breakfast is also a great way of bringing men and introducing them to the Gospel. We know that some people have become Christians as a result of attending Bigger Breakfasts, and we want to encourage that.”

The Breakfast has been moved to Saturday, September 25 so that churches can hold one as part of their Back To Church Sunday efforts – and also form part of their harvest celebrations.

“You invite your mates along to the breakfast and they have a great time – it’s a no-brainer to invite them to come back to church the next day,” Phil adds. “It could be the start of them getting to know Jesus for themselves and that’s why we want every church to take part.”

Although the event is organised by the BMM, it is non-denominational and free to take part in.

“There’s no charge to use our resources – you just sign up, let us know you’re taking part and get cooking. Of course, we’d be delighted if you made a donation for our ministry but we just want churches to hold a Bigger Breakfast and start sharing the Good News with their neighbours,” says Phil.

“One of the strengths of the Breakfast is that churches can organise the type of event that suits them. If it’s a bacon butty affair or a lavish slap-up full Monty, we don’t mind. We just want churches to take that first step and get involved.”
